Apelamos a um investimento Moonshot numa rápida transição proteica para tornar a Europa num líder mundial em proteínas sustentáveis, tais como à base de plantas, de fermentação de precisão e de carne e lacticínios cultivados.
A pecuária, a maior causa isolada de perda de biodiversidade mundialmente, e um dos maiores contribuidores para as emissões de gases de efeito estufa, exige a nossa atenção.
No alvorecer de uma nova revolução tecnológica e alimentar, a Europa encontra-se numa encruzilhada.
Temos uma escolha: abraçar o poder transformador de novas proteínas sustentáveis, ou ficar para trás enquanto o resto do mundo assume a liderança.
Cerca de 35 por cento da terra habitável no mundo é usada para a produção de gado, mais do que todas as nossas florestas juntas.
A produção de proteínas sustentáveis é mais eficiente que a criação animal tradicional, exigindo menos água, menos cultivo de cereais, menos fertilizantes e menos terra.
A procura de carne está a colocar pressões extremas em ecossistemas antigos, como a Amazónia

Num mundo que enfrenta desafios ambientais urgentes, a aparição de proteínas sustentáveis marca uma mudança revolucionária em direção a um sistema alimentar mais sustentável e mais ético.
Estas fontes inovadoras de proteína oferecem alternativas promissoras aos produtos tradicionais de origem animal, reduzindo o impacto ambiental e promovendo uma abordagem mais saudável e compassiva para a produção de alimentos.
Descobre os três pilares principais que impulsionam a revolução sustentável da proteína: substitutos de carne à base de plantas, fermentação de precisão e carne cultivada.
À base de plantas
Não é o teu hambúrguer vegetariano habitual. Estes produtos inovadores, alguns dos quais já no mercado, são feitos de ingredientes como leguminosas, grãos e vegetais. Estas carnes à base de vegetais fornecem alternativas de fazer crescer água na boca e que reproduzem o sabor, a textura e o perfil nutricional da carne e dos laticínios tradicionais.
Fermentação de precisão
A fermentação de precisão é uma tecnologia de ponta que aproveita o poder dos microorganismos para preparar proteínas biologicamente idênticas às encontradas em produtos de origem animal.
Também possui um histórico comprovado, com aplicações na produção em escala global de produtos essenciais como insulina, coalho e ácido cítrico.
Carne cultivada
Às vezes vista como o santo graal das alternativas à carne, a carne cultivada representa um avanço revolucionário na produção sustentável de proteínas. Por meio de um processo que envolve o cultivo de células animais num biorreator, é produzida carne verdadeira sem a necessidade de criação e abate de animais.
*combinar estas abordagens também é possível. Por exemplo, uma tira de bacon à base de plantas pode ter gordura de porco fermentada com precisão para adicionar sabor e aromas.
A fermentação de precisão, em particular, é uma promessa incrível, pois permite-nos criar proteínas idênticas às encontradas na carne e nos laticínios.
Ao fazer uma parceria com o mundo microscópico, podemos produzir alternativas a produtos de origem animal que derretem, cheiram e sabem exatamente como o original.

Economicamente, um setor de proteínas sustentável totalmente implantado poderia adicionar 1 milhão de milhão de euros à economia e criar até 9,8 milhões de empregos verdes no mundo até 2050.

Os investimentos Moonshot também desempenharam um papel fundamental no avanço da nossa compreensão do mundo. A ida à Lua original levou ao desenvolvimento de tecnologias da informação, modelagem climática, dados de satélite e muito mais.Vários desafios previamente invisíveis tornaram-se visíveis, como a degradação da camada de ozono e as mudanças climáticas. Essas áreas alimentaram avanços científicos inovadores, abordando desafios, transformando indústrias e melhorando vidas.
A Europa tem sido um líder global na transição para tecnologias de energia limpa. Agora deve investir em novas tecnologias alimentares sustentáveis
Nações como Singapura, Canadá, EUA, Israel, Japão e China já lideram o mundo em Investigação, desenvolvimento e comercialização de proteínas sustentáveis.
É desanimador ver a Europa ficar para trás, com os principais Estados membros retendo o investimento público e até mesmo considerando a proibição de carne cultivada.
Não podemos dar-nos ao luxo de repetir os erros do passado, quando vimos outras indústrias prosperarem enquanto a nossa ficava para trás. A revolução das proteínas é inevitável e agora é uma questão de segurança alimentar fundamental para o nosso continente.
A Europa deve recuperar a sua posição de pioneira e liderar a revolução alimentar.

Pedimos que se faça um investimento 'moonshot' de 25 mil milhões de euros entre agora e 2030 para alimentar uma rápida transição proteica e tornar a Europa um líder mundial na tecnologia crucial de proteínas sustentáveis.
Não podemos alcançar esta transformação sem acção imediata.
Pedimos que se comprometam com um investimento capaz de impulsionar o desenvolvimento e a comercialização de uma indústria europeia sustentável de proteínas. Este número representa apenas 5% dos fundos comprometidos no Plano de Investimento do Green Deal e é insignificante em comparação com os fundos públicos projetados para serem gastos por meio da Política Agrícola Comum.
